Garden lanterns for planters made from flower pots and branches

Do you also enjoy the wonderful weather in the garden or on the balcony? I’m more of the restless type, you rarely find me on the garden lounger. I always see a lot of corners that can still be embellished and hey presto, I’m already away from the lounger. Yesterday I decided to sit in the outdoor kitchen. Actually, I just wanted to paint the two wall panels because they hadn’t been treated beforehand and were slowly weathering. Now they look really fresh again with the weatherproof color in turquoise. But as always, I was missing a decorative eye-catcher in the corner, preferably atmospheric lighting. The lanterns made of branches and painted metal flower pots fit perfectly in the planter because they are so nice and high and do not get in the way of the fern. I’m going to make some of the lanterns for the other flower beds, because painting sticks is a great project for kids.

I not only have the instructions in pictures for you, but also finally a video again. I’m not really into the topic yet, but I would like to make videos a lot more often because I really enjoy it. Do you actually prefer to watch videos or pictures? I would be interested in your opinion on whether you would like to see more videos in the future.

You need:

  • small metal flower pots (available from Ikea or Tedi, for example)
  • dry branches
  • Colors, e.g. acrylic paints or varnish
  • paint brush
  • Handsaw
  • Cordless screwdriver and drill (metal drill and wood drill)
  • Screws

How to do it:

First you saw the branches to the desired length. Then you paint the branches in your favorite colors and let them dry. In the meantime, you can use the metal drill to drill a hole in the middle of the flower pot. The other holes on the edge are there so that rainwater can run off. To fix the flower pot you have to pre-drill a hole in the branch, otherwise the wood will splinter! Screw the flower pot to the branch with a screw (a washer in the flower pot would have given the flower pot even more support, but I didn’t have it).

Finally, put candles in and put them in the bed! You could also plant the flower pots and put small highlights in the flowerbed …
